Ingleside Sundial

The neighborhood of Ingleside is in between Balboa Park and Stonestown, not far from City College.  Once upon a time, before the 1906 earthquake, there was a racetrack there.  The racetrack was destroyed in the earthquake, and a developer came along and built houses along what was the track, so that the main street, Urbano Drive, is a large oval.  At one end of the oval is a giant sundial.

For some reason this developer thought that a giant sundial would attract homebuyers.  I guess it worked.  The houses in the neighborhood are quite nice, as is the sundial park, which includes a tree swing.  It's a really pleasant neighborhood to hangout in -- mostly pretty quiet with nicely-landscaped houses, although some are maybe a touch suburban-looking for my tastes.  It's walking distance to Ocean Avenue, which is a little grittier and has a lot of great restaurants.

In fact, not far from the eastern end of the oval are three Chinese restaurants in a row that together form my idea of heaven -- Cherry Blossom Bakery, Ming Kee (takeout bbq meat), and Golden Coast (dim sum).

A few other finds: how to read the sundial,

and a car with Tesla-regret.
